Vision Zero and Its Impact on Taxi and Private Hire Industry
Vision Zero is a plan to reduce serious injuries and deaths caused by road accidents. Originally launched in Sweden, many cities worldwide have adopted it over time, including London.
The recent reports suggest that TfL has made Vision Zero a part of its long-term planning to improve public safety on London’s roads. As a result, stricter licensing measures, safer vehicle designs, and lower speed limits are being introduced. In addition, drivers who violate the speed limits will face more severe penalties.
Other UK cities are also planning to implement the same road safety standards defined in Vision Zero.
While the achievability of Vision Zero is still under debate, authorities are doing everything they can to make it more practical, and this means the taxi and private hire industries will need to keep pace with the changing regulations.
