TfL Grants Temporary Licences to Private-Hire Drivers

TfL has announced that it will issue temporary licenses to drivers affected by a technical glitch after applying for licence renewals.

TfL has recently upgraded its licensing system but unfortunately, it’s experiencing some issues due to which many PCO drivers were unable to renew their licences.

According to ADCU (App Drivers and Couriers’ Union), some of the affected drivers have even had their cars repossessed and gone into debt.

The General Secretary of ADCU, Zamur Dreni, said: “The licenses should be issued as soon as possible so our affected members can resume their work.”

The TfL spokesperson says that they are aware of the situation and are trying their best to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

He also said: “The majority of 100,000+ private hire drivers in London successfully renewed their licences in time. Only a few hundred were affected by the glitch. We apologise to the affected drivers and have increased the number of staff in the licence processing department.”

“Until the situation is resolved, we will be granting temporary licences to the affected drivers whose applications were successfully submitted without any errors. These temporary licenses will be valid for three months.”

According to reports, many drivers have returned to the roads after issuance of temporary licences, but some still haven’t received them. TfL needs to speed up the process and rectify its system to prevent further disruption to drivers’ livelihoods.
