PCO Drivers Among the People Most Affected by Unhealthy Eating
A study by Oxford Online Pharmacy reveals that PCO drivers are among the people most affected by unhealthy snacking while on the job. The study involved 2,000 people from 32 different professions and aimed to discover barriers to weight loss across their fields.
According to the study, 26.67% of professional drivers said that their snacking habits during work hours were a major obstacle to losing weight.
Private hire drivers usually have less time to prepare meals as they are constantly on the move. So, they rely on easily accessible food through food outlets, vending machines, etc.
Some other professions facing the same issue include estate agents, firefighters, and broadcasters.
Fast and ultra-processed foods may give you a temporary boost, but they are calorie-dense and lack nutrition, which is why people who rely on these foods often struggle to lose weight.
According to the NHS (National Health Service), 1 in 4 people in the UK are obese.
Obesity increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart problems, and several other health issues. NHS states that it’s likely to spend £10 billion on obesity-related issues by 2050. That’s why efforts to raise awareness about obesity among UK citizens are gathering pace.
If you are also struggling with unhealthy snacking, here’s what you should do:
- Pack a lunchbox with nutrition-rich food before starting your shift.
- Dried fruit, Greek yoghurt, wholegrain crackers, and high-fibre snack bars are also good for health.
- Take soups.
- Drink plenty of water.
In addition, do some exercise in your free time to keep your weight under control.
