FREENOW Nears 50% Electric Rides Milestone

FREENOW reports that it’s close to reaching the 50% electric rides milestone across Europe. The platform offers both licensed taxi and PHV options and is working with relevant parties to accelerate the shift to low-emission vehicles.

FREENOW recently confirmed in a report that 47% of all rides completed on the platform in 2024 were through partially or fully electric vehicles. The platform also confirmed that 55% of business rides and 74% of shared rides were completed through low-emission options.

The company’s efforts to ditch the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles vary across the markets, with London, Dublin, and Hamburg being the leading cities. According to an update from the platform, EVs now make up 25% of the total FREENOW fleet in Hamburg.

Similarly, in Ireland, the incentives and discounts on Tesla vehicles have increased the adoption rate for zero-emission vehicles.

In the UK, hundreds of FREENOW drivers have obtained public and home EV chargers at discounted rates offered through partnerships with BP Pulse and OVO.

The figures from Greece suggest that a lot of work still needs to be done, as only 0.7% of taxis in Athens are fully electric. To speed up the shift to EVs in the country, FREENOW launched the ZAP Taxi Club in 2024 – a programme that offers trade-in options, financing, and access to charging.

FREENOW has revealed that 64% of the total vehicles added to their fleet in 2024 were partially or fully electric. However, a lot of progress needs to made in different parts of Europe due to high costs and lack of charging infrastructure.

To achieve its environmental objectives, FREENOW says it will increase collaborations with policymakers, businesses, and local operators.
