Changes Ahead: Private Hire Licence Costs May Go Up
Transport for London (TfL) is planning to increase the costs of PCO and Private Hire Vehicle licenses in London. If approved, it will increase the fees for the licence application, licence grant fee, SERU assessment fee, topographical assessment fee, and other steps involved in the process.
According to TfL, they are facing a £4.9m deficit in the licensing process, and increasing the costs will help offset it.
The current cost of obtaining a PCO licence is £310, including an application fee of £124 and a grant of licence fee of £186. After the increase, the new fees will be like this:
- Total fee: £343
- Application fee: £138
- Grant of licence fee: £205.
Also, the new SERU assessment and topographical assessment fees will be increased from £36 to £40 each and from £16 to £30 to retake the exam.
The new prices will take effect from September 2025. If you want to obtain a PCO licence, we recommend applying as soon as possible to avoid the proposed price hike.
