UK Drivers Face £100 Fines for Blocking Driveways
A crackdown is being launched against UK drivers who park on driveways or over the boundary, involving a £100 fine.
Graham Conway, a car expert, stated that stepping outside your home and finding a vehicle blocking your way can be extremely frustrating. This is particularly true when you are heading to school, work, or taking a vulnerable family member to an appointment.
He also said that if you are facing such a situation, the law is on your side, and you should immediately inform the authorities.
According to the Traffic Management Act 2004, parking next to a dropped kerb is illegal even if you are not blocking anyone.
In Coventry, council officials say that the residents must properly apply to have a dropped kerb installed next to their properties if they want to park on their own driveways. If you are repeatedly found driving your vehicle over the footway into your driveway, then the council itself could install a dropped kerb and force you to pay the bill, which is about £1,200. Alternatively, the council could block you from accessing your property by installing bollards.
